Alkaline Diet Foods: A Typical Alkaline Diet Day
The main thing to bear in mind regarding the alkaline diet day is that you will have to include 5 portions of fruit and vegetables daily. That means fruit for breakfast, fruit or veg for your mid-morning snack, vegetables at lunch, fruit or vegetables for your mid-afternoon snack and veg for dinner. Does that sound boring? Well actually there are are large variety of alkaline diet foods ways to make it varied enough so that you’ll have no difficulty.
Alkaline Diet Foods
Breakfast should be apples-based. In summer your apples can be raw and in winter they can be cooked. In the summer you can cut them into small cubes and add some oats, almond slices and a little yogurt or rice milk. In winter they can be cooked with raisins, cinnamon, oats and ginger. If you don’t have much time to cook breakfast in the morning you can make up a batch and freeze it in single portion-sized tupperwares, then in the morning you can simply heat and eat.
If you absolutely cannot get yourself to eat the apples in the morning, then you can try making apple sauce and using it like jam on rice cakes. You can drink tea or barely coffee but try to add quite a lot of lemon to it. If the whole idea of apples for breakfast is too much for you, then you can make your own “jam” by boiling prunes, apricots or other dried fruits in a little water. Once they are soft you can blend and use as a natural, suger free jam. It stays fresh for a week in the refrigerator. You can use your “jam” on rice cakes or thin crackers.
Mid Morning Snack
The ideal mid mornng snack could be a handful of nuts or pumpkin seed and some fresh fruit slices, especially cantaloupe, papaya, raspberry, pineapple and/or grapes. If there is no way that you can prepare this at home and take it to work with you, see if there are local cafe’s near your workplace that prepare fresh fruit salads. Make sure they are sugar free. If all else fails get yourself a freshly squeezed orange juice and see if grapefruit, nectarine and/or lemon juice can be added to it. Always carry a bag of pumpkin seeds and nuts with you so that you can help yourself if you get hungry.
Ideally lunch should be a large salad with a side serving of carbs in the summer and a large soup with a side serving of carbs in the winter. The soups can be made and kept frozen, the salad can be bought already washed, sliced and mixed.
Alkaline salad dishes:
- Raw artichoke in lemon sauce
- Carrot and nut salad
- Carrot and Apple Salad
- Cucumber and Almond Salad
- Thinly sliced fennel with olive oil and black pepper
- Green salad and sprouted lentils
- Raw spinach and mushroom with lemon juice
Your side dish of carb can be rice, whole wheat bread, rye bread, whole-wheat pasta or other whole grains. Of course you can mix your carbs directly into your salad for extra flavour.

Mid afternoon snack
By this time you probably will not really feel like eating more sliced fruit, so the best thing is to have fruit shake. Ask your boss if you can bring a small blender to work and just pop in the fruit and some flaxseed, oats water and/or rice milk.
If you cannot bring a blender to work, make an agreement with your local cafe’ and tell them you will be having a shake there every day it they can make it according to your recipe.
Dinner involves a large portion of cooked vegetables and a side dish of protein. Your protein can be fish, poultry or meat, cooked in a pan with a little water. Add olive oil and lemon juice and cover with a lid. You can cook meat and fish from frozen using this method. Your vegetables should be something tasty which you enjoy.

- Red cabbage cooked in wine
- Peperoni, olives and tomato cooked in olive oil
